What is Showrunners?

Established in 2014, Showrunners is a program that teaches and encourages professional production of quality entertainment for PLU students, by PLU students. Our goal is to give students the opportunity to explore their passions for creating television and film, on and off screen, through their own initiative, regardless of academic path. We create content varying in genres, from comedy to romance to thriller.

What are we making?

This year we are creating two short films written by PLU students.

3:27 AM

Created by Emmy Powell and Hallie Harper

You shouldn’t walk alone. “3:27 AM” follows a young woman as she makes her way back to her car late at night and there’s something in the shadows.

Character List

Melanie: A confident, headstrong young woman. She should start out the story very sure of herself and her actions and devolve into uncharacteristic nervousness and terror by the end as the unseen antagonist grows ever closer.

Rowan: (Any Gender) College aged, a bit of a worrier, definitely the more cautious of the two. Holder of Melanie’s self-control.

Calling Home

Created by Emelie Pennington-Davis

Reporting live from Earth! “Calling Home” follows the daily log of curious young alien scientist Alpha Solivigant as they navigate college life, the gender binary, and the dangers of coffee.

Character List

Alpha Solivagant: A young nonbinary alien scientist who has been stationed on a college campus to observe young humans in their natural habitat. They spend their days taking classes, trying new human beverages, and keeping tabs on the odd and endearing behaviors of their classmates. They report all of their findings back to their Mothership; while they try to keep their observations as orderly and scientific as possible, their excitement over new discoveries often causes a little chaos.
